Bill Wilson earns a position on Wall Street with a large expense account. Bill Wilson drinking begins to take over his thinking and his life. The Stock Market crashes. The Great Depression begins.
}The progressive, incurable and deadly disease of alcoholism takes over Bill's life.

The insanity of drink takes over Bill's life. Bill Wilson loses a promising business opportunity. A reference to Dr. Silkworth's  article known as the Doctor's Opinion.
  Bill realizes he can not drink, but is unable to stop with his own willpower.

Bill Wilson returns to the hospital.  Lois in informed he will go insane or die from heart failure and delirium tremors. Bill Wilson came to believe he was powerless over alcohol. - the first step. Fear sobers Bill up for a bit. But he gets drunk again. An old drinking friend (Ebby Thatcher)  comes over. But, his friend is sober.

Bill Wilson realizes that he can not stop drinking by his own will power. He admits complete defeat. Lack of power - that was his dilemma. Bill believes Ebby Thatcher has found a way of life that has changed him profoundly, a power greater than himself. Bill only needs to have a willingness to believe that a power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity. Bill places himself under His care and direction.

Bill Wilson shares his problems and deficiencies with another person. He lists those people he had harmed. He makes amends. He tests his new way of thinking by sitting quietly and asking his Higher Power for guidance. Simple but not easy. Keep it simple.  Bill Wilsonfinds that intensive work with another alcoholic can ensure his sobriety.
